Компьютерная томография применяется не только в медицине, но и в промышленности. Как правило, её применяют для разработки новых соединений и контроля материалов. Учёные показали возможности лабораторного оборудования на примере образования дендритов в ходе затвердевания литейных сплавов, появления пузырьков в металлической пене и горения. Учёные подчёркивают, что сверхбыстрая томоскопия даёт возможность отслеживать практически любые происходящие в материалах процессы на протяжении нескольких минут.
Всего несколько лет назад эта же команда показала миру микроскоп, который способен делать 200 снимков в секунду, и уже в тот момент это был рекорд. Сегодняшнее оборудование, по словам разработчиков, делает всё то же самое, но быстрее и без снижения качества итоговой картинки.
